  • Mission:
  • The mission of Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood is to “inspire and empower young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring adults.” Our educational and enrichment programs strive to improve each child’s life by instilling self-esteem, courage, and positive values.

  • History:
  • Originally founded in 1937, the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood has a long history of successfully providing social, recreational, and educational opportunities for low-income, at-risk students. The program was founded by Mrs. Earl Gilmore of the Assistance League who conducted an after-school program for boys in a two-room building above a garage. The thriving program expanded with the addition of girls in 1986. In 1998, a 22,000 square foot full service facility opened, featuring a social recreation room, arts studio, gym, music room, teen center, and learning center. Satellite Club sites opened in 2004 at West Hollywood Elementary and at Van Ness Elementary schools in 2007. In 2009, as a result of a partnership with the Hollywood Community Housing Corporation, free membership and transportation is provided to students residing in nearby low income housing units. The facility is open weekdays from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm during the school year and extended hours of 7:30 am to 7:00 pm during the summer and holidays. Annual Membership fees are a nominal $30. Hundreds of volunteers, ranging in age from young adult to senior citizens, are utilized as tutors, music instructors, program instructors, coaches, mentors, guest speakers, as well as special event coordinators and fundraisers.
