  • Mission:
  • "Keeping Teeth Healthy One Child At A Time". This is our mission statement. We are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt public charity and we were founded on 9/1/2006. We provide free oral examinations/screenings, brushing instruction, fluoride varnish application and referral on children suspected of having decay. We see the children two to four times per school year. We use a "fluoride varnish" as it is very sticky and adheres to the teeth much better than the fluoride provided at a typical dental office. Fluoride varnish reduces decay and can stay in the tiny cracks and grooves of a tooth for up to three or four months. Our goal is to reduce/eliminate decay in the primary (baby teeth) and permanent teeth of the people (children) we serve. Providing fluoride treatments in this fashion has been done in Europe and Canada for over 30 years with great success. When we started we saw about a 50 percent decay rate in the children. Five years later we are at about a three to five percent decay rate. So it really works! The success is very measurable.

  • History:
  • Our charity came to be on 9/1/2006. We started as a sole proprietor and in 2007 we changed from that to become a 501(c)3 tax exempt public charity (which was more appropriate for the organization). We formed as we saw there was a need for our services within the communities we live. The company is named A FluorideConnection Non Profit Corporation. We travel to over 30 Elementary School and Head Start locations in over eight counties statewide. We provide screenings/examinations on children and refer any child found to have suspected decay. We have connections with dental offices who have agreed to accept our referrals so the children will be provided for as needed. We provide fluoride varnish treatments, toothbrushes and toothpaste all free for the children. Our reimbursement comes from the State's Medicaid Program and generous donations from Supporters. Now that the 2010 2011 school year has ended, we have our year end numbers in. We provided brushing instruction, screenings/referrals, and fluoride treatments to 1,503 children in eight counties statewide. We have provided thousands of free fluoride varnish applications for the children while reducing decay in our served population by a whopping 54 percent.
We are applying for a $10,000 grant if possible. We will graciously accept any monies you may wish to contribute to our cause. We work hard to treat the needs of the children we serve. We need your help to continue to care for the children. We wish to thank you in advance for any help you can offer. We thank you for the gracious opportunity you have afforded us in providing a chance to request your help. Thank you so very much for considering our application. Sincerely, Kathleen Traut, Executive Director. PS the tax determination letter just went out in todays mail and you should have it soon. It was addressed to Lori Mitchell, Executive Director, 530 Wilshire Blvd, Suite, 207, Santa Monica, CA 90401. We also included our states Certificate of Exempt Status (CES) Letter.
