  • Mission:
  • The mission statement for the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is "to inspire and educate, to promote and preserve aviation and space history, and to honor the patriotic service of our veterans".

  • History:
  • The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum (EASM) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in memory of Captain Michael King Smith. Raised in McMinnville, Michael Smith continued his education at the University of Washington and in 1989 received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force. Smith went on to become an F-15 pilot and Lead for the 123rd Fighter Squadron of the Oregon Air National Guard. He also served as President of Evergreen Ventures, Inc., and Evergreen Air Venture Museum. Captain Smith died tragically in an automobile accident in 1995.
Captain Smith’s dream was to create a living aviation museum. Evergreen International Aviation (EIA) founder, Delford M. Smith, shared his son’s vision.
EASM serves a diverse population, including both rural and urban schools, as well as visitors from all around the globe. The Museum’s aerospace artifacts offer platforms for informally teaching history, science, mathematics and technology to the region’s youth and global stream of lifelong learners.
Since opening in June 2001, the EASM has hosted over 1.9 million visitors. During 2010, the Museum’s total membership was 3500 and our admissions rose to just under 300,000 annual visitors. The EASM Education Department provides standards-based lessons and activities to more than 35,000 youth annually through on-site and outreach programs. For the past two years, the EASM Outreach program has been provided to schools free of cost, and the on-site programs are accessible to all through our Scholarship Program.
