VISION STATEMENT
Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County is the premier youth development organization in Frederick County providing children with the highest quality programs and opportunities for success
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County is to enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as responsible, productive, caring citizens.
- History:
In 2002, as a program of Boys & Girls Club of Washington County, Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County opened its first Club unit in partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Frederick at the Sagner Village Public Housing Community.
In 2004, the Club moved to Monocacy Middle School. Positive results there led to a second Club unit, which opened at Crestwood Middle School in 2005. In June of 2007, the Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County partnered with the City of Frederick and began operating after-school and summer programs at the Burck Street Youth Center located at 413 Burck Street (across from McCurdy Field). In 2008, the Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County partnered with the Frederick Alliance for Youth to operate a fourth after-school program at the Hillcrest Community Center. Including outreach efforts, the Club served 874 children in Frederick County last year alone.
In 2009, the Club has expanded again and is offering programs at three additional middle school locations: West Frederick Middle School, Brunswick Middle School., and Gov. Thomas Johnson Middle School. In addition, in 2009, we separated from Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington County. In 2010, we received our charter from Boys & Girls Clubs of America recognizing our organization as an affiliated member.
Membership in the Boys & Girls Club has a lasting impact – 57% of national alumni say that the Club saved their life, 67% say the Club taught them to “say no” to drugs and alcohol, and 28% say they would have dropped out of high school if not for the Club. The Club also helps families by supervising children so that parents can work.
With programs located in the poorest schools and neighborhoods in Frederick, Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County works daily with young people from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances. The Club offers young people what they want and need most – adults who respect and listen to them; a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves; and interesting constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits.
