Advocates – Crisis Support Services is committed to the empowerment of individuals and the elimination of emotional, sexual and physical violence.
As the only victim services provider in Moffat County, Advocates – Crisis Support Services (ACSS) began operation in 1978 with a board member providing safe shelter in the basement of her home. At that time, services were limited to one night of safe shelter with referrals to similar agencies. Since then, ACSS has continued to provide high quality victim services including but not limited to: a 24-hour crisis hotline, crisis counseling, personal and judicial advocacy and support, information and referrals, and safe shelter up to 45 days.
Due to Moffat County’s remote rural location, Advocates- Crisis Support Services encounters many challenges to providing victim services including: the unavailability of specialized services (mental health, drug/alcohol addictions, and immigration assistance), the lack of community involvement through volunteerism, the cost of training opportunities (travel expenses and lack of volunteers to cover on-call shifts), and the lack of transportation.
