- Mission:
Through collaboration and unity, the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center provides a diverse platform for our community to meet, learn, be challenged, and grow.
- History:
In 1981 the Billy DeFrank Lesbian and Gay Community Center opened in San Jose after Santa Clara County residents voted to repeal ordinances extending housing and employment protections to lesbians and gay men. Since then, the DeFrank Center has continued to inspire purposeful action and create change in favor of equality while providing a safe atmosphere for our community. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people, and their allies of all ages and backgrounds find resources at the Center that are not available elsewhere in the South Bay. Our goal is to provide a broad array of opportunities and programs, a dedicated and caring staff, devoted volunteers, and a spirit of community that celebrates the many facets of our broad-based lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
