  • Mission:
  • 21st Century Parks, the 501(c)3 non-profit organization responsible for the creation of The Parklands of Floyds Fork, was founded with a mission to create and preserve unexcelled parklands that reflect the needs and values of our whole community.

  • History:
  • Founded in 2005, 21st Century Parks is a Kentucky-based private, non-profit corporation, created to bring a fresh vision to the preservation and development of new public parklands. 21st Century Parks is responsible for the development and long-term operations of The Parklands of Floyds Fork, one of the largest new metropolitan park systems in the nation. 21st Century Parks has compiled nearly 3,800 acres of land and protected it for public use and enjoyment into perpertuity, on the edge of Louisville, KY a top 50 metro area. In 2008, Wallace Roberts and Todd, the renowned Philadelphia landscape architecture firm, completed the master plan for The Parklands, comprising four major parks along the Floyds Fork, a classic Kentucky stream. The four parks are linked by a new park 19 mile drive, a 100-mile urban trail system, and a canoe trail along the stream. A celebratory groundbreaking is being held on May 31, 2011 and all of The Parklands of Floyds Fork are scheduled to be open to the public by the end of 2015. The total cost of land acquisition and park development is $113 million, of which $106 million has been raised. Of the five new major urban parks in the country, The Parklands is the only one 90% funded and scheduled to be open within five years.
