- Mission:
To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens
- History:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Weld County (BGCWC) opened its doors in Greeley, CO in 1964, serving a few young men out of an old tire shop. At the time it provided a safe place for young men to go and learn basic skills, such as how to change the oil in a car and clean a carburetor. Today the Boys & Girls Clubs of Weld County operates two main units in the city of Greeley, each serving up to 150 boys and girls ages 6-18, daily. The Clubs also operate two school-based sites in rural communities outside of the city: Galeton and Milliken; both serving up to 50 young people each day.
The biggest difference between 1964 and 2011 is not the number of youth we serve or the number of sites we have, but more importantly, how we serve the young people of this community. We believe that if we are going to truly make an impact on the youth of this community, we must recognize that academic success along with life skills development is imperative in the quest to break the generational poverty cycle that our youth face.
