  • Mission:
  • The Quest envisions a society of compassion that provides education, employment opportunities and health care so all can live up to their potential; of inclusion that welcomes the stranger and embraces the diversity in our midst; of stewardship that responsibly uses the gifts of creation in order to renew the earth for future generations.
The mission of The Quest is to promote social justice concepts and issues. Social justice entails the belief that all individuals should have equal access to society's resources and opportunities and be at all times accorded human dignity. We strive to offer a vision of a more just social order. We recognize and support the dignity of life in all its forms and promote solidarity with those suffering injustice.

  • History:
  • The Quest for Social Justice took root in 1998 when a group of Christians began meeting in a private home. Their goal was to reflect on the Hebrew prophets, the message of Jesus, and on Catholic social teaching, formulating action plans to be implemented in the Mobile, Alabama, area. They were motivated by the fact that there was at the time no identifiable religious voice of social justice in the Mobile, Alabama, area. Nor were issues of social inequities, clearly evidenced in the nation, addressed at the local level. The group's first focus was public education on issues such as the School of the Americas, capital punishment, tax reform, and landlord-tenant legislation.
In the year 2001, the program expanded to the point that establishing an office of social justice was needed. A temporary Board of Directors was created and a fund-raising campaign began. The group was incorporated in the state of Alabama under the name of "The Quest, Inc." on March 15, 2001.
In that same month, an office was opened at 3263 Demetropolis Road in Mobile, Alabama. Since 2001, the Board of Directors has included representatives of a variety of faith-based and civic organizations working on the causes of peace and justice. Over the years The Quest has collaborated with many grassroots organizations including Alabama Arise, Bay Area Women’s Coalition, Project Hope to Abolish the Death Penalty, The Equity and Inclusion Campaign, Mobile United, Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reform, Hurricane Homeowners Insurance Initiative and Southern Poverty Law.
