Family & Children's Aid is a community-based, non-profit organization offering high-quality, innovative and responsive programs and services to heal and support children and families in crisis.

• History:

Family & Children's Aid (FCA) traces its roots back to the Hartford Female Beneficent Society, founded in 1809 to serve young girls who were orphaned, deserted, or given up by their biological families, who were unable to support them. An asylum for young girls was established in 1824, and a similar institution for boys was founded in 1865. In 1892, Virginia Smith,a visionary for foster care, founded the Connecticut Children's Aid Society, opening a Fairfield District Branch in 1926 at 30 West Street in Danbury. This evolved into today's Family & Children's Aid. FCA continues to be Connecticut's leading provider of expert psychological and support services to children and an unwavering advocate for child and family welfare. Virginia Smith had a saying she repeated to those she sought to influence...."For Every Child, a Home". These words continue to inspire the organization's staff and volunteer leadership and are a driving force in the development and delivery of its many programs.
