General

  • Mission:
  • Allies Against Slavery builds slave-free cities by mobilizing communities, supporting survivors, and catalyzing system transformation. We believe that only by bringing all sectors of society together can we reach our ultimate goal of making Austin, and other cities across the nation, slave-free – where traffickers can no longer exploit the vulnerable and where survivors can truly heal

  • Overview:
  • Allies (Allies) Against Slavery builds Slave-Free Cities through community mobilization, survivor support, and system transformation. Allies coordinates system transformation through the Slave-Free City (SFC) Network, an innovative model designed to increase the effectiveness of over 60 multi-disciplinary partner agencies working together to address slavery across the Central Texas region. In addition, Allies serves trafficking survivors through our Survivor Support program, which focuses on mentorship, professional training, and leadership development for survivors of trafficking. Allies also works tirelessly to train and educate community members in Austin through the mobilization and outreach work of our SFC Campaign. Each year we train hundreds of service providers, juvenile justice personnel, and community members as well as engage volunteer leaders who help us raise awareness through our Ambassador program.

  • History:
  • Allies Against Slavery was founded upon the desire to respond to the crisis of human trafficking in Austin. Our first meeting was held in 2010 and reflected a diverse mix of individuals and organizations who believed that we all have the opportunity to end human trafficking and we could do it best when working together. While our influence has grown since then, that basic belief still influences all our current programs and efforts. The road ahead is long, but we will not stop before we reach our goal of making Austin a slave-free city.
