Headquartered in Chicago, the Alliance for the Great Lakes is the oldest citizens’ Great Lakes protection organization in North America. Its mission is to conserve and restore the world's largest freshwater resource using policy, education and local efforts, ensuring a healthy Great Lakes and clean water for generations of people and wildlife.
The Alliance serves the people living in the region who get their drinking water from Lake Michigan. In addition, the 5,000 volunteers who participate in our valuable programs—including the 750 students from Chicago Public Schools involved in the Adopt-a-Beach program, and the approximately 700 members, 100 government officials and 200 community groups that regularly work with the Alliance—are all impacted by our education, advocacy and direct service program.
