The Housing Research & Advocacy Center (The Housing Center) is dedicated to eliminating housing discrimination and assuring choice in Northeast Ohio by providing those at risk with effective information, intervention and advocacy.

• History:

Since 1983, the Housing Research & Advocacy Center (The Housing Center) has been dedicated to promoting fair housing and lending practices in order to ensure equal housing opportunities for the residents of Northeast Ohio. Established as the Metropolitan Strategy Group, the organization began as a “brown bag” luncheon group comprised of local grassroots civil rights advocates who shared the goal of expanding housing opportunities for Greater Clevelander’s regardless of their race, religion, gender, ethnicity, national origin, familial status, or disabilities. In 1992 the organization was incorporated under not-for-profit laws in the State of Ohio and granted federal exemption status in 1994. The name was changed in 2003 to the Housing Research & Advocacy Center to better reflect the organization’s mission and vision as a focused fair housing agency.
