Action for Protection of Wild Animals(APOWA) was founded with a mission of “building a community of people to support…[the] welfare of animals and [the] environment and [to] improve relationships between man, animal and environment.” APOWA acts to conserve the coastal resources, threatened species and ecosystems, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on ground work and take account of human needs. APOWA is committed to saving threatened habitats, and their wildlife. And by saving vital habitats we are also helping save Life on Earth.
The Action for Protection of Wild Animals(APOWA) is a nonprofit registered conservation organization based in Orissa, India. The mission of APOWA is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands, waters and other natural resources they need to survive. APOWA acts to conserve coastal resources, threatened species and ecosystems in coastal Orissa, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on ground work and take account of human needs. APOWA is committed to saving critically threatened habitats, and their wildlife. And by saving vital habitats we are also helping save Life on Earth. APOWA aims at to realize a set of objectives so as to recreate, renovate, revoke, rehabilitate, protect & promote advancement of all living beings, structures and lively frame works. APOWA has a high degree of expertise in conducting environment education programs through its outreach program to schools and communities which is supported by a strong team of environment and conservation educators. APOWA builds upon the organization’s core strengths: achieving demonstrable results; working with a wide range of stakeholders, science-based, robust conservation planning methodologies; our experience with transactions; and, perhaps most importantly, our ability and commitment to back up our strategies. The heart and, indeed, the mind of APOWA has always been its Steering Group of multi-skilled environmental professionals, technical personnel and conservationists.
APOWA has been working relentlessly for conservation of rich biodiversity of the region. This is why; the nature conservation program of APOWA has been won various international, national and regional excellence awards. This demonstrates the organization’s longstanding clearly strong sense of environmental stewardship. To its dedication and commitment, APOWA has been awarded with 12th Mahaveer award by Mahaveer Foundation in 2008, Prakruti Mitra Award 2009 by Forest and Environment Department, Govt of Orissa, and Niramaya Sanman by International Naturopathy Organization. Further, APOWA is recognized by Animal Welfare Board of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt of India and affiliated to Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathana, Govt of India. APOWA is also member league of International Organization for Animal Protection associated to the UN Department of Public Information. It is also Partner in the Countdown 2010 network of IUCN (World Conservation Union) to support the commitment made by world leaders to save biodiversity by 2010.
