• Mission:

The Academy serves as an islands and regional waters-focused science, education, and resource management professional association with membership open to all professional and layperson scientists, students, environmental managers, science educators, and interested individuals from all sectors, including: secondary and postsecondary academic institutions; laboratories; institutes; government agencies; and nongovernmental organizations.

A major focus of the academy is to insure active community involvement with good efforts in science, education, and environmental management being carried out by all academic levels, including agency/institute professionals, students, private professionals, and members of the general public.

• History:

The Asia Pacific Academy of Science, Education and Environmental Management (formerly Western Pacific Academy of Science and Environmental Management) is a nonexclusive professional organization, initially begun in April 2004 and formally established in November 2008. It is located on the Island of Saipan, within the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, USA. The goals of the Academy are to serve as a forum for science, education and environmental management presentations; to promote discussions of mutual interest amongst regional science and environmental management-focused professionals, students, and the general public; and to sponsor grant-funded noteworthy projects within these disciplines. The 2008 addition of “Education” to our group’s focus areas expanded our encompassing scope and audience potential considerably. To date, the Academy has held 11 meetings, combining both special and general meeting sessions, and has hosted 26 formal presentations, from 38 individual presenters listed below and at the end of this short narrative.
