The National Council for Scientific and Technical Research is the leading body dedicated to promoting science and technology in Argentina. Its activity is developed in four major areas:* Agricultural, Engineering and Biological and Materials * Health * Natural * Humanities and Social
Objectives: * Promote and fund scientific research and technological support activities aimed at scientific and technological progress in the country, the development of national economy and improving the quality of life, considering the guidelines established by the Government Nacional. * Promote the exchange and scientific and technological cooperation within the country and abroad. * Provide grants for research projects. * Provide internships and fellowships for the training and development of college graduates, or for conducting scientific research the country and abroad. * Organize and fund institutes, laboratories and research centers, operating in universities and public or private institutions or under the direct dependence of CONICET. * Managing the Career of Scientific Research and Support Staff to Research and Development. * Instituting awards, credits and other measures to support scientific research. * Provide advice to public and private entities in the area of jurisdiction.

ts first president was Dr. Bernard A. Houssay (Nobel Prize 1947) who, with his imprint's founding, he instilled a clear strategic vision expressed in organizational concepts held over more than a decade of driving.
Established as a self financing agency under dependence Office of the President, then gave him a wide range of instruments that are adequate to raise the level of science and technology in Argentina by mid-century and still constitute the focus of its actions: the Career of Scientific and Technological Research Staff Research Support and Development, scholarships, funding and project implementation units for research and linkages with international governmental and non - governmental organizations with similar characteristics.
After forty years of existence, CONICET is one of the most important assets of the nation's capital in science and technology:
It integrates researchers from all disciplinary areas who carry out their tasks mainly in national universities from various regions of the country, research institutions in science and technology and implementation units themselves or in association with these institutions. Promotes research and development in all subject areas across the country. It helps the main characters in the national context and as part of a diverse network of international relations to human resource training of excellence. There is an evaluation system implemented since the beginning of CONICET and updated as the own and international experience accumulated. This system of participatory and rigorous evaluation, and provides quality weighted research projects submitted, productivity resulting therefrom, and the trajectory of individuals and research groups. It represents a source of information and advice on significant potential for various different areas of the national state institutions and for private activity.
