  • Mission:
  • For more than 20 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has fulfilled their mission of enriching, encouraging and empowering children to reach their highest potential through safe, fun, positive mentoring relationships with caring adults.

  • History:
  • Since the Champaign office opened in 1999, there have been over 1000 children referred to our program for services. Big Brothers Big Sisters has quickly become a focal point of prevention efforts within the community and has developed strong partnerships with both Champaign and Urbana school districts as well as other service agencies that provide services to children. We have also developed a strong relationship with University of Illinois students in providing mentoring and leadership opportunities for them. While we have been matching children with mentors, the number of children on our waiting list continues to grow. At this time, the agency has over 100 children matched in the program, but 70 more waiting for a BBBS mentor. In our ongoing effort to serve more children we have looked for alternative programming that would allow us to serve more children with fewer dollars.
