  • Mission:
  • Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana (CSNI) enhances the quality of life of those affected by cancer in our community by providing meaninful resources, informatoin and compassionate assistance. CSNI’s mission is based on the belief that a cancer diagnosis brings with it more needs than the obvious need for medical care, and these needs affect the entire family. People with cancer and their families need emotional support and practical resources and they can find them at Cancer Services.

  • History:
  • Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana has been serving people diagnosed with cancer and their families in Allen County, Indiana since 1944. In February 2006, CSNI expanded its service area to include Adams, DeKalb, Noble, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, and Whitley Counties in part as a response to requests from Parkview Hospital staff who saw the benefits of CSNI’s services and the great need for those services in other counties.

In 2002, with the support and endorsement of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Cancer Services’ client advocate program was launched. This program is designed to address the psychosocial needs of the cancer patient as s/he and her/his family move through the complex system of cancer treatment. In addition to personalized supportive counseling, client advocates serve as an information and referral source and the access point for the practical resources described above. Having a client advocate means that not only is a person with cancer not alone, but s/he has a compassionate and knowledgeable third-party to whom s/he can turn to for any need.

The staff of Cancer Services consists of 10 full-time and 4 part-time staff members. The executive director has a BA and 19 years of not-for-profit management experience. The program director has a MSW and is a licensed clinical social worker. The organization is abundantly blessed with more than 600 volunteers helping in a wide variety of ways.
