  • Mission:
  • BREATHE California of Los Angeles County (BREATHE LA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to lung health and clean air. Our mission is to promote clean air and healthy lungs through research, education, and technology. We do this by addressing TB, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), environmental education, lung disease, asthma, tobacco, and access to services.

  • History:
  • BREATHE LA was first formed in 1903 as the Los Angeles Society for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis (TB). When advances in technology and medicine resulted in a dramatic downturn in active TB cases, the agency began to take an increased interest in the relationships between air pollution and respiratory disease. BREATHE LA is part of BREATHE California, the statewide coalition with sister organizations in Central Coast, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara-San Benito Counties.
