  • Mission:

  • 4-H youth development education creates supportive environments for all youth and families to reach their fullest potential. This will be accomplished through a systemic approach of foundation and mission driven science to meet our goals to:

    * Provide formal and non-formal experiential learning
    * Develop skills that benefit youth throughout life
    * Foster leadership and volunteerism in youth and adults
    * Build internal and external partnerships for programming and funding
    * Strengthen families and communities
    * Employ research based knowledge and the land grant university system
    * Embrace and expand the traditions of the 4-H Youth Program

    Washington 4-H Stewardship Programs build youth leadership through outdoor educational activities, hands-on learning and community service, fostering connections between people and nature, and helping youth recognize that responsible citizens are natural resource stewards.

  • History:
  • WSU Extension engages people, organizations and communities to advance knowledge, economic well-being and quality of life by fostering inquiry, learning, and the application of research. 4-H is Extension’s youth development arm and is one of the largest youth development organizations, nationally, with documented success in developing caring, competent and contributing citizens. 4-H is the only youth development program connected with 106 land-grant universities, providing youth and volunteer leaders with access to cutting-edge and innovative research, university faculty, and on-site, hands-on SET education.

    Thee Washington State 4-H Foundation develops and manages private resources for the Washington 4-H Program. Relationships are maintained with Washington State University, which administers 4-H and with volunteers in the 39 counties and the Seattle Urban 4-H program. The Foundation supports 4-H adult leader training, teen leadership development, conferences, awards and recognition, scholarships, outreach to youth with special needs, community service projects and other programs.
