  • Mission:
  • ChildSafe's mission is to restore dignity, trust and hope to children traumatized by sexual abuse. We serve as San Antonio, Texas' Children’s Advocacy Center and are the only agency in the area to provide a continuum of care to child sexual abuse survivors and supportive family members, including medical, therapeutic and victim services. The agency was built upon three primary foundations: investigation, prosecution and therapy. While we facilitate the investigative side of child sexual abuse cases, we also serve as advocates for our children and families through a legal and investigative process that is often unfamiliar and confusing. Children and their families come to ChildSafe in crisis and we provide for their immediate concerns, as well as provide extended follow-up care. ChildSafe offers a wide range of services, including: sexual assault medical exams, recorded forensic interviews, crisis and long-term counseling, support groups, case management, victim advocacy, long-term support through the Child Abuse Resource Enhancement (CARE) program, court orientation, medical training and professional and public education.

  • History:
  • ChildSafe was founded by a community task force established to study the problem of child sexual abuse in our community. Upon seeing the investigative process and its impact on children, the task force was devoted to creating a child friendly environment where all necessary services for child sexual abuse victims were available in one location. The Children's Advocacy Center model was adopted based on its incorporation of a multidisciplinary team (MDT). The inter-agency agreement that created ChildSafe also created our MDT. Through our MDT, ChildSafe offers a child friendly environment where services are available in one location. The MDT consists of 23 additional agencies, including local law enforcement agencies, prosecution, area hospitals and Child Protective Services.
