  • Mission:
  • Childhood Leukemia Foundation (CLF) was founded in 1992 to empower and “lift the spirits” of infants, children and teenagers with leukemia, but within months CLF expanded its mission to include children with all forms of cancer. CLF’s programs increase self-esteem, empower children to have fun experiences and provide tools for children and their families to cope with cancer.

  • Overview:
  • CLF offers four core programs: Hope Binders, Hugs U Wear, Wish Baskets and Keeping Kids Connected. The Hope Binder program assists families with the overwhelming task of prioritizing and tracking medical information and costs associated with the treatment of their child. The Hugs U Wear program provides 100% human hair custom-made wigs to children suffering from a loss of self-esteem due to treatment induced hair loss. Wish Baskets program is a welcomed "surprise," for young cancer patients. After receiving a grueling chemotherapy treatment or spinal tap, CLF offers Wish Baskets to "Lift the Spirits" of these very deserving children. The baskets are filled with age appropriate items and a $75 Gift Card to purchase another wish item of their choice. These baskets are free of charge to any child under 21 years old with any type of cancer diagnosis. Keeping Kids Connected program donates iPads and Laptops to children and hospitals to help young cancer patients to remain connected to family, friends and school while actively receiving treatment. In addition, the iPads and laptops are a very useful tool to help divert the child’s attention during stressful, lengthy and painful procedures.

  • History:
  • Since inception, CLF has worked to maximize the effectiveness of its programs by developing new strategies to meet the needs of children with cancer as well as refining existing programs based on feedback from children, parents and child life specialists. CLF first pursued its mission of lifting spirits by sending gift baskets filled with educational materials and games to help children cope with the confusion, anger and isolation of cancer treatment. In the past, CLF has also awarded financial grants to families of children with cancer and provided supplies to pediatric cancer camps. Over the years, CLF’s programs have evolved and today, CLF believes its programs are more targeted and responsive to the individual needs of children with cancer and encourages them to embrace hope for the future. Currently CLF's services are distributed to more than 5000 children in 230 hospitals throughout the United States each year.
