  • Mission:
  • Our mission is to promote and support the well-being of adults affected by cancer in Maine, as well as their friends, families, and co-workers. We are able to achieve this by offering seven different categories of programming and support. They include creative expression workshops, one-to-one emotional support in our Maine Buddy Programâ„¢, 13 networking & support groups, resources and referrals, social activities, workplace support and wellness classes which focus on physical exercise, stress reduction, and nutrition.

  • History:
  • The Cancer Community Center's founder, Jane Staley, believed that support was essential to healing. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1994, Jane sought a group of like minded individuals and a place to meet others who understood where she was in her cancer journey, but found no such resource in the community. This motivated her to bring together business and community leaders, oncology professionals and cancer survivors as a steering committee to oversee the creation of the Cancer Community Center. We opened our doors in October 1998 and have continued to grow day after day in the number of people we support and the variety of free programming we offer.
