  • Mission:
  • The mission of Classroom Central is to equip students to effectively learn through the collection and distribution of free school supplies. We realize this mission by operating a Free Store where teachers and other authorized school personnel can obtain free supplies to enable students from needy families to succeed academically. During the 2009-2010 school year, Classroom Central distributed approximately $4.5 million worth of school supplies to over 90,000 students in our region.

  • History:
  • In 2000, after learning that thousands of children were coming to school without basic supplies, a team of community leaders set out to find a remedy, even though a feasibility study showed that the number of children in need of basic materials was staggering. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, area businesses and other community partners committed to creating a "free store" for teachers. Monetary and product donations were secured, staff was hired, a location for the store was identified and refurbished, and Classroom Central opened its doors on October 8, 2002. We have grown from serving 36 area schools eight years ago to over 160 today, and have distributed over $25 million worth of school supplies to kids in need.
