  • Mission:
  • ACTS mission is to alleviate hunger, homelessness, and domestic violence, and help people achieve self-sufficiency in the Prince William Area.

    Our Vision
    To engage the community in innovative ways through active involvement with our strong volunteer base, faith community, dedicated and competent staff, as well as public and private partners.

  • History:
  • ACTS was originally established in 1969 when thirteen church congregations met to address redundant efforts in ministering to the poor within Prince William County. With a unified desire to ensure that such needs were administered by lay people and met without any bias by religious affiliation, they adopted the slogan ‘People Helping People.’ Evolving from merely meeting very basic needs, this work continues today with five major initiatives that provide:
    1 - Temporary emergency shelter, clothing vouchers and financial aid;
    2 - Longer term housing with case management oversight;
    3 - A 24 hour telephone hot-line offering problem-solving and crisis resolution;
    4 - Two stores that receive & sell clothing, furniture and other household items, and
    5 - The only full service domestic violence intervention program in the Prince
    William area.
    To ensure that Prince William County residents have access to quality services in times of crisis, ACTS is the organization that unites need with the resources to help.

    In 1969 Prince William had 111,000 residents; in 2009 the population grew to 379,000. The County has grown by 49% since 1990, with an average annual growth rate of 3.02%, and growth projections of 416,000 by 2025. The poverty rate has risen to 5.4% (up from 3.2% in 1990). No longer a rural area, we now face the problems and challenges of a growing suburban community.
