  • Mission:
  • The CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Program for Bullitt County works to recruit, train, and support volunteers to advocate the "best interest" of abused and neglected children in the Family Court system. These innocent children are victims of parental abuse or neglect and find themselves in the court sytem due to no fault of their own.

  • History:
  • Located approximately 25 miles outside of Louisville, Kentucky, Bullitt County continues to grow at a rapid pace. The growth in population and the new businesses continuing to call Bullitt County their home has changed the community to a more urban status rather than the previously known rural community. The 2010 Census results relfect a 21.4% increase in population from the years 2000 to 2010. Statistics show during this timeframe population expanded from 61,236 people to 74,319 people. Census results reported the majority of the households are families with two children under the age of 18. The overcrowding of schools had become a problem, resulting in over a period of time, three new elementary schools were built and two were renovated to meet the growing needs. During the years of growth, two new middle schools were built, and future plans for a new high school are in place to accomodate the overcrowding they are experiencing. A Family Court opposed to a District Court was also established during this time to address the increasing needs that came with the population growth.
Along with the growth in the community our program has also grown. As the Executive Director of Bullitt County CASA since June 2005 I have witnessed a tremendous increase in our cases involing abuse and negelct, which called for a great need of program growth. Since 2005 our program has grown from three volunteer advocates to our current number of 84. At this time our program serves 169 of the over 400 children in the Family Court system.
Our program depends solely on grants, personal/corporate donations and fundraisers to sustain our program.
Bullitt County CASA is governed by an 14 member Board of Directors. The Board consist of local community leaders. Board meetings are held monthly to discuss our budget, program administration, and fundraising as well as any other issues that may require attention at that time.
