  • Mission:
  • The Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc.'s mission is to teach children with mild to profound hearing impairments to listen and speak without the use of sign language or lip reading. The agency's vision is to bring people with hearing impairment or loss into a lifetime of listening and speaking.

  • History:
  • Founded in 1977, the Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc. (AVC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit hearing center in Atlanta, Georgia that delivers audiology services and Auditory-Verbal (AV) therapy to uninsured and underinsured deaf and hard of hearing persons. Core services including, hearing aid screenings, tests, fittings, and AV therapy, work to ensure that deaf and hard of hearing individuals of all ages can fully integrate in hearing environments needing no special assistance or help.

AVC: is the only program of its type in the state and one of only four in the nation; has two Georgia sites (Atlanta and Macon) and offers tele-therapy for families unable to drive to a physical location; and has the only Assistive Listening Devices (ALD) Center in Georgia and is one of only three providers in the state of Georgia offering non-sedated Auditory-Brainstem Response and Auditory-Processing Disorder testing. In addition, AVC serves as a practicum site for the training of AV therapists.

Since its beginning in a room above a church 34 years ago, AVC has grown with certified AV therapists including licensed speech language pathologists. AVC has a full audiology department staffed by licensed professionals providing a complete scope of services to infants, children, adults, and seniors.

Each year, the Center delivers audiology and AV therapy services to over 1,600 uninsured and underinsured persons, not just expanding access to health care but saving billions in taxpayer allocations to special remediation and disability entitlement programs.

Upon completion of AV therapy, 100% of our child clients (ages five and older) can attend traditional hearing schools needing no additional resources or help for their hearing impairment.
