  • Our Mission: Casa Verde provides youth, from all backgrounds, the experiences, sustainable resources and skills necessary to reach their highest potential in globalized society.

    Casa Verde turns summer camp into a progressive educational experience – Abroad! Our center in the community of El Limon, Nicaragua, offers programs focused on global citizenship and sustainable living.

    We believe education is the foundation for true innovation and social change. We teach young people how to work in any group, live in any place, and imagine creative solutions to any challenge.

  • As the seed of an idea has developed into a 31 acre organic farm, established Boards and Staff and a growing community of support, we are excited to share what Casa Verde has accomplished heading into our fifth year of development and completeing our first formal year of programs:

    ○ Founder Amie Riley, completes search for Casa Verde site
    ○ Purchase and development of facility location and farmland in Nicaragua
    ○ Creation of Listserv of partners and potential clients, social networking

    ○ Development of community network in Nicaragua, including ongoing relationship-building with multiple local cooperatives, families, and international non-governmental organizations
    ○ Development of pro-bono partner contractors and consultants

    ○ Completion of basic camping facilities and site development
    ○ Initiated design process for Nicaraguan facilities
    ○ Development of initial branding/marketing including website launch
    ○ Launch of active International Advisory Board

    ○ Successfully launched "Family Homestay" program for participants
    ○ Established Governing Board and elected Officers
    ○ Created site medicinal garden by partnering Casa Verde participants with local indigenous leaders
    ○ Created Community Action group including stakeholders from local villages and engaged foreign residents
    ○ Partnered with community leaders to open the Limon Public Library.
    ○ Built solar-powered artesian well and completed internal access road at Casa Verde site
    ○ Completed Nicaraguan facilities design
    ○ Secured Fiscal Sponsorship for exempt status
    ○ Developed Strategic Plan

    As we move forward into our 2011-2012 Program Year, we plan on hosting our first Core Programs - on Susainable Living and Global Citizenship. We will also launch Partner Program and Internship opportunties, in the coming spring and summer season. This will happen in coordination with the construction of further site development and facility construction.
