  • Mission:
  • Our mission is to provide services necessary to address youth and families in need through social, educational and prevention programs, which encourage personal and social development. CAPTAIN strives to build resilient, emotionally healthy and self-sufficient families.

  • History:
  • In 1977, a group of concerned parents came together to create a grassroots organization to help troubled teens. Since then, CAPTAIN has developed into one of the most recognized and highly respected, volunteer-driven human service organizations, serving the principal needs of youth and families in Saratoga County, New York CAPTAIN continues to be at the forefront of the social issues that affect the less fortunate, disadvantaged, underserved and neglected within our community.

    CAPTAIN has approached these issues with such well known programs and services as: Elementary and Adolescent Help-Lines (Teen Talk and Phone Friend); Youth Drop-In Centers (Turf Mobile Home Community in Halfmoon and Teen Drop-in Centers in Ballston Spa and Corinth); Street Outreach Program that connects street youth with services in all corners of the County; Runaway and Homeless Emergency Youth Shelter; Youth Leadership Programs (CAPteens); Community Outreach; Family Assistance; Information and Referrals; Conflict Resolution Support Services; Emergency Rent and Utility Assistance; Emergency Food Pantry and Community Education services. In 2010, CAPTAIN provided 21,764 units of service to youth and families in Saratoga County. Units of service include bed nights for homeless children, emergency food pantry access, a child helped with homework during the after-school enrichment program, a family assisted to stay in their home to prevent eviction and so many other ways CAPTAIN helped those in need within the community.
