  • Mission:
  • Create, Innovate, Empower.
CINEQUEST is a vanguard organization that fuses creativity with technological innovation to empower, improve, and transform the lives of people and communities, through Cinequest Picture the Possibilities (PTP) and Cinequest Film Festival.

  • Overview:
  • CINEQUEST is a, year-round, nonprofit organization that fuses creativity with technological innovation to empower, improve, and transform the lives in San Jose and worldwide, through Cinequest Film Festival (CQFF) and Picture the Possibilities (PTP).

CINEQUEST FILM FESTIVAL showcases and celebrates the creation and discovery of cinematic art and innovation and empowers creative minds with passion—all while connecting global artists, innovators, leaders, cinema lovers, and students here in San Jose.

CINEQUEST PICTURE THE POSSIBILITIES is a San Jose and Global youth and leadership movement to empower youth with the tools, confidence and inspiration to create their dreams from science to art. Picture The Possibilities.. Picture It. Create it.

  • History:
  • A premier arts and empowerment institute founded in 1989, Cinequest’s uniqueness and impact results from always being ahead of the curve, whether it comes to discovering independent voices, showcasing new technology, or reinventing the very definition of discovery. It’s a celebration of Maverick filmmaking, innovations, and a laboratory of new ideas, all rolled into one.

PICTURE THE POSSIBILITIES (PTP): In 2011-2012, the inaugural year for Cinequest’s PTP, was a resounding success — locally and globally. PTP is a transformative leadership movement where empowered youth create films expressing visions of a better tomorrow that inspires global leaders to ignite change. Cinequest staff and professional mentors listened to and empowered the little-heard voices of at-risk youth in San Jose, Palo Alto, Los Angeles, New York, Mexico City and Beijing through the art of filmmaking. During week-long programs, youth were tasked with creating stories focused on bringing about positive change, telling personal stories cinematically about how to make their immediate worlds and, those of others beyond their own communities better. Through this program, these youth were empowered in ways not otherwise possible. Through creative expression and attentive mentoring, minds were stirred, previously locked doors opened, and success achieved. During Cinequest , audiences are invited to the PICTURE THE POSSIBILITIES World Premiere Event, when the cinematic realization of these youths’ stories/voices will be heard publicly for the first time as well as seen globally through innovative Silicon Valley Internet technologies, interconnecting the stories, the filmmakers, and worldwide business, political, and media leaders. This World Premiere Event will be the catalyst to inspire these global leaders to ignite the changes expressed in the films, while at the same time encouraging everyone to participate in this transformative movement to create a better tomorrow. Through the universal language of film, these initial ripples of ideas will build into waves of change that will positively impact communities around the world.

CINEQUEST FILM FESTIVAL (CQFF): Cinequest is one of the Top Ten film festivals in the world (as listed in leading expert Chris Gore's best-selling Ultimate Survival Guide to Film Festivals). With 24 years in operation, Cinequest has introduced the world to thousands of films and artists. This year, Cinequest presented almost 200 discovery films, with 85 World, U.S. and North American premieres. Cinequest celebrates new technologies shaping the arts and the business of cinema; including forums on NEW distribution, Empowering the Future of Cinema through Youth Voices, and state-of-the-art technologies.

CQFF welcomes 100,000 film lovers annually, over 500 film artists and innovators from around the world, over 200 media representatives, thousands of students (college and K-12) and hundreds of film industry representatives.

The 24th edition of the festival (March 4 – 16, 2014) celebrates the work of film artists from 45 countries, drawing much of San Jose and the Bay Area’s diverse population to downtown San Jose; 2) over 300,000 film lovers and artists via Cinequest Distribution—including streaming films over the Internet and “hard copy” DVDs distributed through Netflix, iTunes, Amazon and Rokku; 3) over 2,000 established and emerging film artists through an aggressive film solicitations/submissions campaign; 4) over 700 aspiring screenwriters via the Screenplay Competition and Cinequest Day of the Writer Celebration; 5) and over 2,000 middle and high school students via Cinequest Forums, special screenings and our expanded, global film education program, PICTURE THE POSSIBILITIES.

Powerful, soulful and innovative films represent just a portion of Cinequest offerings. Attendees also participate in inspiring presentations and programs, such as Empowering Voices through art, mastering storytelling, and using medium to positively affect lives.
