  • Mission:
  • Assistance League of Southern California, a nonprofit organization established in 1919, provides a broad range of essential human services and economic development activities to low and moderate income residents in Southern California including, but not limited to, Los Angeles, Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley and other geographic areas where need for ALSC services is present.

  • History:
  • Assistance League of Southern California (ALSC), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization established in 1919, provides a broad range of essential human services to people in need within the greater Los Angeles area through a partnership of dedicated volunteers and staff. The organization was founded by Anne Banning, a leading philanthropist of her time, to aid families in distress as a result of World War I. Her vision to provide service to all in need, regardless of their race, religion or culture, laid the foundation for our work today. Over 90-years later, this commitment has grown to encompass eight community services administered by ALSC.

ALSC “helps people to help themselves” through eight community-based agencies: Theatre for Children, Learning Center for Young Children, Children’s Club, Operation School Bell, Foster Children’s Resource Center, Hollywood Senior Multipurpose Center, Family Service Agency and Volunteer Center Los Angeles – ALSC.
