  • Mission:
  • Community First empowers people living in the villages of rural Cambodia to develop sustainable means to improve the quality of their lives.

Our vision is to have a significant and sustainable positive impact on the lives of Cambodians living in rural villages. This is embodied by our five-year plan and achieved by increasing villagers’ access to healthcare, education and job training, sustainable agriculture techniques, employment opportunities, and clean water and sanitation.

Our initiatives are designed to improve the economic, social, and environmental bottom lines of the communities with whom we work. Our integrative approach towards community development also ensures that all of our initiatives reinforce one other, maximizing the benefits to the villagers.

  • Overview:
  • Community First Initiatives began work in Cambodia with the mission of relieving poverty in rural areas by creating small businesses that provide employment. In the past three years, CFI has created jobs in rural villages in northwest Siem Reap Province by building and equipping a sewing center and training villagers to manufacture mosquito nets and clothing.

As we worked and lived alongside the villagers, we saw daily that jobs alone do not solve the endemic problems of poverty. We learned that CFI’s focus and efforts must also include working to provide access to clean water, sanitation, healthcare, education and developing and initiating agricultural programs. Without this infrastructure, jobs alone are not enough to sustain stability.

We also confirmed that the way to true and lasting success is to work closely with village and commune leadership to ensure that programs meet the needs of the village and will be embraced and continued by the villagers with CFI support. Once established, these efforts can be carried to other villages in rural Cambodia.

  • History:
  • The Community First approach towards rural development is an integrative one which focuses on specific villages in need. Our solution is a holistic one that incorporates four different approaches to rural development in a single community.

Combined with a comprehensive action plan for all 16 villages, our work is raising the quality of life for thousands of people, one family at the time.

Since 2008, CFI work in a water access, agriculture, livestock & fisheries program, education and create small business in the rural area.
