  • To promote a sustainable process of social change in favor of the poor and the marginalized communities through building community-based people's organizations, strengthening their capacities and affirming their rights, based on the values of equality and social justice.

  • Overview:
  • Brothers Integrated Rural Development Society is an unit of The Sacred Heart Brothers Society which involves in the upliftment of the rural people in the semi-urban and rural districts of Karnataka, the southern state of India. we organize a people into community based organization by forming them into a Women Self Help Groups. in the beginning we focused mainly on the women and then form there we moved to children and now we are concentrating youths too. we follow the right based approach in developing the people. the target area (Devanahalli, Hoskote, K.R.Puram and North Karnataka districts) where we do our mission consist people those who are in need. in these districts we give a special concentration to the Dalit people. to the women we provide various training programmes such as leadership training, training on Government schemes, skill trainings.

    to our credit now we have 450 women self help groups formed and 20 Children parliament and we are on the process to increase this number and to realize the development in these areas.

    The specific objectives of the project are as follows;

    o To Strengthen the community based organisations in the 20 villages with membership of women from dalit and tribal communities.

    o To identify potential women with leadership qualities and promote local women leadership through training and capacity building so that they manage their affairs independently

    o To encourage alternate means of income generation to augment their livelihood sources

    o Improve the health and hygiene condition of the target population

    o To promote a network of CBO facilitate the CBOs and mobilise and tap government resources at the Taluk level

  • History:
  • The organization established on 8th February 1978. The organization is registered in the name of The Sacred Heart Brothers under the Karnataka societies Registration act of 1960. The organization is registered with the ministry of Home Affairs under the FCRA for receipt of foreign contribution and also with the Department of Income Tax u/s 12A & 80 G for tax exemption.

    BIRDS (Brothers Integrated Rural Development Services) is a functional unit of the Sacred Heart Brothers started in the year 1997 as a social development wing to focus its involvement in various community development programs in remote parts of States of Karnataka.

    BIRDS has committed itself to serve the most deserving population of the India society who live in abject poverty and to follow the concept of Social Equity in identifying and reaching out to the most vulnerable
