  • To empower and support parents with the tools, stategies and knowledge needed to support their children in all areas of their development with emphasis on language, reading and general academic and social success as become contributing members to the local community and society at large.

  • Overview:
  • Clovis Family Literacy is a Monday through Thursday four component program serving low income and/or English as a Second Language families with children birth to eight years of age. It offers both home visitation and site based services including early childhood education, adult education, parent and child interactive literacy time, and parenting education. The program is currently operating at two Clovis Unified schools: Pinedale Elementary and Clovis Adult School. Program instructors are certificated and/or credentialed teachers using research based ECE curriculum. While their children attend the ECE class, parents attend adult classes through the Clovis Adult School. Classes range from ESL to High School Diploma, GED and an array of vocational classes. The twice weekly parent and child together time (PACT) involves both child and parent working together facilitated by the ECE instructor and classroom aides within the ECE classroom. Parenting education component provides instruction to program parents with children from birth to eight years of age. Parents participate in weekly three hour classes focusing on child development, positive parenting skills, father involvement and learning in the home environment. The parenting educator is a credentialed educator with over 15 years experience. Research based parenting curriculum is the foundation of the topics presented and discussed from learning in the home, positive discipline, ages and stages of development, language development, and communication to name a few. An integral paret of the program is the Dads' Nights. Quarterly Dads' Nights bring fathers to the school campus with the child for an evening of child and dad together. during the two hours dads participate in an activity with the child facilitated by the ECE instructor and then move to another classroom for an hour of parenting education with the male Dads' Night parenting instructor.
