  • Mission:
  • To recruit, train and supervise volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers are appointed by a juvenile court judge to speak up in court for the children and monitor their cases until they are placed in safe and permanent homes.

  • Overview:
  • Oregon Coast Community Action (ORCCA) is a private non-profit umbrella agency that provides cost effective joint administration, leadership, and support for children’s programs and emergency services on the southern Oregon Coast.

The CASA program of Coos County works to lift up the lives of abused and neglected children in our communities. CASA advocates give vital support to children (ages 0-18) in the court system to make sure children's needs are met.

Staff members work to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.
There were 478 Coos County children in State custody as a result of abuse and neglect in 2011. Unfortunately 260 of those children did NOT have a CASA advocate to help them through the overburdened child welfare system.

Our circuit court judge has stated that 100 volunteers would serve this need.

  • History:
  • CASA of Coos County was originally established in 1993 as the effort of a few dedicated volunteers. The program director was in the first training group in 1993 and became the director in 1998 when CASA moved under the umbrella of ORCCA. The program has had as many as 80 volunteers and has now stabalized at about 60. Funding for the program depends mostly on a minimum grant from the state, local fundraising, private grants and community donations.
