  • Mission:
  • Allen Renaissance strives to create opportunities, combat community deterioration and juvenile delinquency, provide relief and affordable housing to the underprivileged, and to advocate for the advancement of quality education for all children and youth in the Tacoma Washington and surrounding areas

  • Overview:
  • Allen Renaissance currently offers two programs: Renaissance House and the Tacoma Intel Computer Clubhouse. Renaissance House provides transitional housing and support services for single women and women with children who are homeless, so they can overcome the challenges posed by economic hardships and/or domestic violence. We provide housing for women and their children (if any) for up to 22 months in our 7-bed facility. The House offers a safe environment while providing supportive, sustaining and enriching programming that will help residents achieve long-tem permanent housing and the skills to become better parents and self-sufficient contributors to society.

The Tacoma Intel Computer Clubhouse provides youth ages 10-18 with a safe learning environment where they can be creative, develop skills and build confidence through the use of state-of-the-art technology. The Clubhouse supports youth development in order to transform the way youth learn and live and provide them with vital 21st century technological skills.

ARI is located in the Hilltop community of Tacoma, WA. The Hilltop community is one of the most underserved in the City of Tacoma. The community has a 19% unemployment rate and 58% of families live below the poverty line, compared to 11.4% of residents citywide. According to results of the 2010 U.S. Census, there are 4,442 residents in this community, of which 48% are people of color, including 28.6% Black/African-American, 8.6% Asian or Pacific Islander, 3% Native American, and 7.8% other races or two or more races. In addition, 11% of residents are of Hispanic or Latino ethnicity.

Although our programs are community-based, many of the youth we serve at the Computer Clubhouse come to us from throughout the City of Tacoma, and the women and children who reside at the Renaissance House may come to us from throughout Pierce County. However, most are low-income, many are people of color, and all are in need of expanded opportunities.

  • History:
