General

  • Mission:
  • Our mission is to bring simple grace, hope and love by increasing self sufficiency through education and charitable projects in poor communities.

  • Overview:
  • Angels Center of Hope (ACOH) is a faith based not for profit Organization based in Louisiana, New Orleans (recognized as a 501(c) 3)..We also have a sister organization based and legally registered in Kenya by the Non-Governmental Coordination Board of Kenya.ACOH is run by volunteers both here in the US and in Kenya.
Our main objective is relief of poverty, promotion of health, environment and education in Kenya .We work mainly with grass root communities in the rural arrears of Kenya where poverty levels are high due to lack of development.

Currently our focus is more on Girls’ education, women empowerment and AIDS/HIV orphans (including other vulnerable children) in the rural areas of Kenya where poverty levels are very high.

Below are some of our accomplishments since our inception :-
    • Started a peer education program in 2008 targeting teenage girls in both primary and secondary schools. We organize peer education seminars aimed at curbing teenage pregnancies amongst adolescence girls
    • Since January 2010, we have been supplying poor girls with dignity kits (sanitary ware) monthly. Currently, we are able to support only 65 girls; these are just a few for there are many more in need in the rural regions. We hope with availability of funds, we will be able to support more in the near future.
    • Started an education scholarship program targeting orphans and other poor children in primary and secondary schools. We are currently supporting 7 children (4 in primary boarding schools & 3 in secondary schools). We have also been able to arrange individual sponsorship through the “adopt a child “ program and now 4 orphaned children are benefiting from this program. The sponsors support them with their basic needs (food, clothing, education etc).
    • Initiated a cultural exchange program with schools from outside Kenya to expose our local youth in Kenya to students from other locations & cultures. Thus in April 2012, Girls from Various universities in Italy (in collaboration with Karibu Africa, an Italian NGO) visited and stayed with our local youth in their homes for several days, getting to know their way of life & learning each other cultures .We also arranged sports competition (soccer & volleyball) between them giving them more opportunity to have fun, interact and get to know one another better.
    • Took a medical team of volunteers from New Orleans to Kenya for breast cancer awareness campaign and screening and treatment of other diseases in 2007 & 2008.. They also held training sessions on various health issues including HIV/AIDS, water borne diseases and malaria.
    • With support from local corporate sponsors, supplied books to kilaatu primary school, a local community school to open a library so that poor students from the community can have access to books to study.

These are just a few; we want to do more especially on projects aimed at reducing poverty and eradicating injustice.
