  • Mission:
  • To educate the public about environmental responsibility and stewardship, particularly in regards to solid waste management, and to change behaviors to reduce landfill waste.

  • Overview:
  • The Clean Vibes Trading Post promotes environmental awareness, stewardship and responsible outdoor recreation at festivals through comprehensive incentive-based environmental education. Our core programming is focused on engaging patrons to participate in waste diversion efforts and decreasing total landfill waste. We encourage an increase in patron participation in recycling efforts to divert waste from the landfill by offering an immediate reward. Patrons can turn in recyclable items to the Trading Post at a festival and exchange the items for cool prizes. The items become a kind currency and the more items collected, the better prizes participating patrons can "purchase." Providing patrons with an incentive enables us to directly engage people in the clean up process, educate them about the importance of waste diversion, and eliminate as much of the event’s waste as possible from the landfill.

  • History:
  • In 2008, at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, TN, the Clean Vibes Trading Post worked with event promoters, artists, and environmentally conscious companies to create a system of incentives to motivate festival goers to participate in recycling efforts. Patrons could turn in pieces of recycling into the Clean Vibes Trading Post booth, collect points for each recycling piece, and later redeem their points for “prizes.” Prizes consisted of donations by the event producers, artists, and other eco-friendly companies. Examples include small prizes, such as sunscreen, to large prizes, such as free tickets to future events. The opportunity to help keep Bonnaroo clean while earning cool prizes excited patrons at the festival. Since 2008, the Clean Vibes Trading Post has effectively engaged over 2000 participants and diverted over 1.5 million pieces of recycling from the landfill.

In its 4th year of operation (2011) the Clean Vibes Trading Post received its 501©3 status. In 2012, The Clean Vibes Trading Post engaged over 500 people to participate and diverted over 300,000 pieces of recycling—totaling over 1.5 million pieces of recycling collected in five years!
