General

  • Mission:
  • The mission of Christ's Home is to serve the needs of disadvantaged children and senior adults in an atmosphere graced with love, dignity, compassion, and respect.

  • Overview:
  • Christ’s Home for Children has three children’s programs designed to serve and support children who have been taken out of heir homes due to abuse or neglect. These children are placed with us by county Children and Youth Services. The Residential Childcare Program includes children ages birth-15, the Transitional Living Program is for youth ages 16-18, and the Teen Mother and Baby Program is for parenting and expecting teens and their children.

These children are removed from a potentially destructive environment and placed in one of our safe, family-style cottages. We can care for up to eight children in each of our five primary cottages, so we are able to keep sibling groups together. The children in each cottage are lovingly cared for by two Teaching Parents. These married couples are trained in the Teaching Family Model and provide a stable home environment. They are the primary caregivers and emphasize positive correction and personal accountability for actions. The children attend public school and have access to community recreational and therapeutic services such as individual or family therapy and art and play therapy. Children also participate in meal preparation, age-appropriate chores, day trips, and school or community activities.

The Transitional Living Program (TLP) serves youth between the ages of sixteen and eighteen. This program is designed to address the needs of teenagers who will soon be leaving the foster system to live as independent adults. Teens in residence learn life skills such as: money and home management, self-care, and how to access community services. During their time in the program, these youth are expected to complete their high school education and seek part-time employment.

The Teen Mother and Baby Program is similar to the TLP program in that the girls receive the same training, continue their education, and maintain part-time jobs. The girls also learn about baby care, child development, and parenting techniques. These girls are mentored by the Teaching Parents but are responsible for the care of their children.
