  • Mission:
  • Clean the World has a two-part mission: the first is to recycle hygiene products collected from hotels in all 50 United States, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and 10 Canadian provinces. Some of our more than 1,700 hospitality partners include The Walt Disney World Resorts, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, Hilton and Hyatt branded properties. Our recycling efforts have helped eliminate more than 750 tons of hotel waste from polluting local landfills. Clean the World’s second mission is to recreate soap bars and amenity kits that are redistributed to those in need of basic hygiene items. We work to educate and supply families with soap to fight against hygiene-related illnesses like acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease which are the top two killers in the world of children under 5-years-old. To date, we have donated soap and amenity kits to people in the U.S. and 66 other countries throughout the world with help from numerous non-profits/NGO’s.

  • Overview:
  • Clean the World accomplishes its mission by collecting hygiene products from participating hospitality partners and individual soap drives in all 50 United States, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and 10 Canadian provinces. Our more than 1,700 hospitality partners throughout North America have helped us to eliminate more than 750 tons of hotel waste from polluting local landfills. We work with our Hospitality Partners to train housekeeping staff on the recycling process and provide them with online training videos and housekeeping instruction posters to enhance understanding. All properties participating in Clean the World’s Hospitality Recycling Program are under contract. Our agreements have been approved by legal departments of major hotel brands, including Walt Disney World. Our collection process has been implemented Six Sigma by several 4- and 5-star properties. All Hospitality Partners are listed on our website with hyperlinks back to those property websites. We provide all Hospitality Partners with customer service representatives to call for service. Our ongoing marketing plan works to encourage stays at our partner hotels.
After being collected and shipped to a Clean the World Recycling Center, bar soap is first surface cleaned, then sterilized. The sterilized soap is ground and the soap grounds are inserted into a soap manufacturing line and re-pressed into a brand new bar. Our Orlando ROC processes over 10,000 bars of soap a day. This recycling process has been certified by TriTech Laboratories, an independent, Florida state-certified environmental lab. As the world’s first and only, high volume soap recycler, Clean the World ensures that all bars of soap recycled and distributed domestically and abroad are completely safe and will not harm the end user due to disease or pathogens that can be transmitted if proper re-purposing does not exist . Patented process certified to be 100% effective in killing all pathogens. Our recycling process has been vetted and passed inspection by the Quality Control group of a major soap manufacturer and amenity provider. Clean the World is committed to maintaining an environmentally and hygienically safe recycling process. The new bars are boxed and often palletized for distribution to those in need all over the world.
Our approach to recycling soap and providing it to those in need differs from the one other organization in our country also doing this in that we offer a “turn key” solution to our hotel partners. We offer all the collection resources necessary to make their inclusion seamless. This includes: training of all housekeeping staff via an online video, DVD, and English and Spanish Housekeeping Training Posters ; appropriate number of collection/shipping bins; shipping to and from Clean the World ROC; impact statements to properties detailing the total weight of donated products on a quarterly basis; folding vanity cards for each guest room; announcement of partnership in our monthly newsletter and property’s name in the partnership section of our website with hyperlink to the property’s website.
Furthermore, we recently launched the “One Project”. We create hygiene kits that are focused for giving domestically to people in need which are specifically supplied with additional items needed by the homeless and families in transition. We use our recycled soap, collected bottled amenities, and add basic items such as razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and a washcloth. While hygiene products cannot be purchased with food stamps, it is our hope that we are filling the void in providing these basic necessities. We help by providing: greater amounts of basic necessities for cleanliness; help in fighting hygiene related illnesses; and, products not eligible for purchase through social service assistance.

  • History:
  • Clean the World started in 2009 and is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization that recycles basic hygiene items gathered from hotels nationwide in order to create soap bars and amenity kits that are redistributed to those in need. With a mindset on corporate social responsibility and a desire to make a difference, Shawn Seipler, CEO and Executive Director, co-founded Clean the World with his business partner Paul Till. Shawn was working as vice president of sales and marketing for a global ecommerce technology company and doing a substantial amount of travel when he began to think about the concept of recycling hotel hygiene items. While Shawn and Paul investigated how to recycle bar soap and use it for social good, they discovered that two very deadly diseases - acute respiratory illness (pneumonia) and diarrheal diseases (cholera, dysentery) - are the top two causes of death among children under 5 worldwide. Studies show that more than 60 percent of the deaths may be avoided through proper hand washing with bar soap and by putting soap in the hands of children in need, millions of lives can be saved. These social entrepreneurs are committed to focusing their business, management and leadership skills on this humanitarian cause through bighearted efforts.
In 4 years we have: recycled more than 12 million soap bars; diverted over 750 tons of hotel waste from local landfills; distributed over 80,000 hygiene kits; redistributed over 8.5 million bottled amenities; and, sent over 120,000 pounds of plastic to be recycled. We do this with a company-wide full time staff of 35 people and more than 7000 volunteers donating 20,000 hours (year-to-date) in two Recycling Operations Centers in Orlando, FL and Las Vegas, NV.
