  • Mission:
  • The mission of the CCSCF is to search out the needs of the elderly and disabled adults and work with the community to ensure these needs are met. With the arrival of the “baby boomers” into the senior population many new and different needs are becoming evident. Not only is there a need for health and welfare services, but also the need for socialization and a feeling of self worth is important. Providing volunteer opportunities as well as services to this new group of seniors is of great benefit to the individuals giving and receiving the aid. The need and desire of seniors to keep abreast of the changes in laws and services becomes a duty of the CCSCF and its programs. Each program is an important element in the process of enriching the quality of their lives and enables them to live independently and with dignity as long as their health permits.

  • Overview:
  • CCSCF experienced the growth of members and clients from 2,867 in 2010 to 3,163 in 2011 (+9.4%) and growth continues through the first half of 2012. The Board of Directors and the staff reviewed the needs of the community, held a strategic planning session, and decided to continue to expand and meet the demands, especially in the area of Wellness, which teaches our students to age successfully in their homes. We edited our mission to “enriching the lives of the aging adults”. We accomplish this by providing a multitude of services, including the following: 1.) A nutrition center providing approximately 250 home delivered meals five days a week to qualified indigent and elderly residents of Comal County. Congregate meals are served within the Center and meals for service groups and other special events, 2.) A licensed adult day activity and health service center providing nursing services, meals, activities, and transportation services to dependent seniors and disabled adults, 3.) Minor home repair and weatherization service to seniors, 4.) A well-equipped fitness center, a pool, and a hot tub; we offer classes in strength, balance, Tai Chi and water aerobics, 5.) A thrift store which supports other programs by selling donated furniture, clothing, appliances and jewelry, 6.) A library with a few thousand paper back books that can be taken home by seniors, 7.) A computer lab for general use and one-on-one instruction, 8.) Three meeting rooms for rental to various civic, social, and religious groups, 9.) Multiple classes in financial management, Medicare issues, home heating and cooling issues, free flu shots and blood pressure monitoring (Comal County Health Department), and 10.) A gathering place for seniors to obtain information and assistance for their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

  • History:
  • The Comal County Senior Citizens Foundation (CCSCF) was established as a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization on June 6, 1984. In the past 6 years we have started to become more proactive in the provision of programs (i.e., Nutrition which provides "Meals on Wheels" to an adverage of 300 homebound seniors and congregate meals at six locations to and adverage of 525 seniors Monday through Friday, a licensed Adult Day/Activity and Health Service Center (My Friend’s Haus), Wellness, and the Home Repair Division in Comal and Guadalupe Counties, Texas. Our target audience for programs is seniors aged 50 years and older and those adults with disabilities in the area. Many of the programs target only low income seniors, disabled adults and/or veterans while others are open to all seniors and disabled adults. The number of clients grew by +9.4% in 2011 and continued to grow by 15% in 2012. CCSCF has had a very strong commitment from the community that can be seen through the amount of volunteer involvement. Currently, we have over 450 volunteers who spend anywhere from one hour to several days per week helping to make our programs flourish along with a staff of 37 employees. The Board of Directors is committed to the growth of the Foundation and its services by being involved in all fundraisers and donating time and money and most of the board members are seniors.
