  • Mission:
  • Arapahoe House is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a continuum of accessible, affordable, and effective services for individuals and families with alcohol, drug or other behavioral health problems.

  • Overview:
  • Arapahoe House offers a variety of innovative and effective treatment programs that are licensed by the Division of Behavioral Health and/or the Department of Human Services. In the last fiscal year, admissions to the 20 different programs at Arapahoe House totaled 24,652. Because Arapahoe House is committed to offering a continuum of care that encourages clients to transition from one level of care to another, the number of admissions actually represents 15,563 unique clients served by all programs. The treatment philosophy at Arapahoe House is grounded in the guiding principles of recovery and incorporates all elements of a recovery-oriented system of care as promoted by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. The agency takes a bio-psycho-social approach that incorporates motivational interviewing and individual assessment of each individual’s stage of change. Inclusion of family members and others who are close to the individual being treated are key elements to the long-term, chronic-care model. Arapahoe House views addiction as a chronic, long-term condition best addressed from within the healthcare system.

Arapahoe House provides comprehensive 24-hour residential care at five different metro Denver locations. Programs specialized for pregnant and postpartum women, adults, youth, and substance-related offenders are available in addition to transitional services that provide ongoing support for life-long recovery. Outpatient services are offered at six different locations and are specialized for women, substance-related offenders, monolingual Spanish-speaking populations, methamphetamine/stimulant users, and individuals with co-occurring mental illness. Services are also offered in American Sign Language. These services are adapted to meet the needs of the individual client including personalized assessment and referral as well as individual, group, family, and DUI education and therapy. DUI services include education and therapy for those who have received one or more alcohol-related driving citations and are offered in both Spanish and English. A non-hospital, social setting provides detoxification services for adults that facilitates safe withdrawal from alcohol or drugs and engages clients in further treatment as appropriate.

  • History:
  • Arapahoe House is Colorado’s leading nonprofit provider of affordable drug and alcohol addiction treatment. For nearly 40 years, Arapahoe House has been a champion for families and individuals with alcohol, drug and other behavioral health issues. Today, more than 15,000 friends, neighbors, siblings, parents and children in metro Denver find help, hope and healing from addiction every year.

Arapahoe House was established in 1975 as a non-medical, detoxification facility. The Arapahoe County League of Women Voters was instrumental in its formation, with initial funding derived from the Colorado Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division and Arapahoe County. Arapahoe House has a national reputation for innovative and effective treatment programs including residential, outpatient, detoxification and DUI services.
