  • Mission:
  • The Center for Ecological Education and Cultural Immersion (CEECI) @ Camp Louemma has been developed in order to serve the Tri-State area underserved student populations throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York youth K -12. The goal and purpose of CEECI is to educate and engage youth in exploring the science and wonderment of the natural surroundings and resources of the Northern New Jersey watershed where the Camp Louemma facility is located. Camp Louemma has been in existence since 1941 as a residential camp facility,

  • Overview:
  • At present CEECI, has developed a science based program in earth sciences and aquatic and woodland ecology lessons that provides a hands-on opportunity for school/youth groups to come and explore, teachers to enhance their curriculum and for youth groups/organizations to provide stimulating, challenging team/leadership building opportunities. Our programs are designed to improve and strengthen social skills and core values of student participants through science education. (See our online program guide This education initiative is cross curricular in nature and will utilize various Common Core Standards and STEM methods in teaching and learning.
    We are a 501c3. The purpose for this grant request is to fund and support materials needed (lap top computers for digital microscopes (already being donated), outdoor scientific data collection, field study instrumentation and sampling/monitoring equipment as well as pre and post handout/outreach materials for youth participants. Also being requested is additional curriculum development materials/resources for K-12 programming needs and curriculum development (books, maps, digital images, education consultation/collaboration fees, undergraduate and post-graduate per diem instruction stipends for developing, implementing and enhancing lesson plans, programs, activities and curriculum.

  • History:
  • CEECI was developed in December of 2012 and is looking forward to a great piloting year beginning in the late spring/summer of 2013 and beyond.

    • Camp Louemma began in 1941, almost 70 years ago. The camp was originally founded in an effort to bring city children to the country during the war years. The objective was to provide these children with wholesome activities in a serene and communal environment.

    Camp Louemma's mission is to provide programs that help the individual child work toward
    realization of his/her physical, social/emotional and intellectual potential through structured
    daily living activities that teach self esteem, self reliance, responsibility, trust, leadership,
    teamwork, cooperative spirit, and good citizenship.
