General

  • Mission:
  • The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

  • Overview:
  • The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better. Supporting adult mentors work with youth whose backgrounds include high rates of child poverty, educational challenges, family dysfunction and juvenile arrest rates. The youth are at-risk and have elevated exposure to crime, gangs, violence, and substance abuse. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring “match” relationships provide children with positive encouragement and a reliable source of support from a caring adult. Every volunteer “Big” is fully screened, then interviewed, trained and prepared to assist one child (their “Little) to achieve and surpass their individual goals. Case manager track the relationships between the Bigs and Littles, offering support and guidance to help the Bigs in their efforts to help the Littles to grow, succeed in (school and beyond), and becoming productive, successful members of the community.
