By inspiring individuals to be the champions they are destined to be, students initiate personal and social change, making a positive difference in themselves and their communities.

  • Overview:
  • Champion of Choices, Inc. is an innovative 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to reducing the incidence of bullying, peer pressure, substance abuse, and suicide among pre-teen, middle- and high-school students. Serving communities in Central Florida and across the nation, Champion of Choices has successfully implemented its School Program and powerful “Choices” stage production at more than 450 schools and organizations – empowering students to make positive choices. Marc Mero and the Champion of Choices Team are changing student’s minds by reaching students’ hearts with our powerful program that persuades a new way of thinking. “Attitude is a choice. Life is precious and we all have an impact on each other. You can belittle people and make fun of them or you can reach down, pick someone up, and have a friend for life …Choices!” Bullying is cited as a top safety concern among schools, students, parents, and communities. How students treat each other can have a profound and lasting effect on their self-esteem and quality of life. With the prevalence of violence at schools – reported on our news channels daily – the need for positive interventions in our society has never been greater.
Bullying has escalated outside of school walls and occurs 24 / 7 via computers and mobile devices. Sadly, along with advances in technology has come a rise in teen suicide. And the link between bullying and suicide is alarming. Self-harm behaviors such as “cutting” and “burning” are a cry for help from depressed students and those with self-worth issues. Our young people need a shining example of Founded in 2007, by former WWE Wrestling Champion Marc Mero, Champion of Choices offers a comprehensive program to address the serious issues affecting our young people. Our entertaining and engaging production makes an emotional impact that promotes personal reflection and change. Students who are depressed, suicidal, cutting, going through adversity, or being bullied are encouraged to speak to administrators, counselors, their parents or a trusted adult. Frequently, the first point of contact for students is with Champion of Choices because of the connection they feel toward Marc Mero and our Team. Numerous lives have been saved because of this outreach!
As part of our Program and ongoing follow up, “Think POZ Motivational Moments” videos are provided for weekly broadcast on the school’s TV system. These inspiring videos keep Marc Mero’s affirmative messages in front of students on a continual basis and reinforce the positive momentum.
Dreaming Big and Goal Setting are additional components of the Champion of Choices Program. A goal-setting card is given to each student following the “Choices” production and students are encouraged to write down their goals and take action towards them. “You can do anything you set your mind to – you just have to Believe!” Marc Mero’s personal examples of setting and achieving goals are shared in a unique and memorable way. Schools are encouraged to carry out a follow-up lesson plan to maximize this powerful educational tool, discuss action steps necessary to reach goals, and connect students with others who share similar passions. Several teens currently helped by our program have told us they are now helping other students. Some have started Anti-Bullying Clubs; others share with us the goals they are reaching – all stemming from the positive inspiration received from Marc Mero and Champion of Choices! A student who heard Marc Mero speak at his high school, got an “ah ha” moment saying, “I can do that!” after seeing video clips of Marc boxing. Recently, we were contacted by this student and learned that, three years later, he won a Florida State Championship in boxing. This grateful young man thanked Marc for inspiring him. “Dreams DO come true!” Thanks to Champion of Choices: Students have HOPE for a brighter tomorrow. School cultures are being transformed as students take a stand against bullying. Students who are depressed, exhibit self-injurious behavior (cutting), or have suicidal thoughts are getting help Young people are discovering their life passion, setting goals, and becoming the Champions they are destined to be!

  • History:
  • Champion of Choices, Inc. founder Marc Mero is an inspirational speaker, former WCW and WWE wrestling champion, and author of “How to be the Happiest Person on the Planet” (New Education Press, 2011). Marc Mero experienced his first crisis at age eight when his parents divorced. He grew up in a single-family home in a poor section of New York, but wrote down his dreams and goals, setting his sights on athletics. Marc worked hard to achieve success in hockey, football, boxing and professional wrestling. After reaching the pinnacle of sports entertainment, Marc suffered enormous loss and learned that money and fame couldn’t buy happiness. “It’s NOT what’s in your pocket; it’s what’s in your HEART that matters!” The tragic loss of more than 30 of Marc Mero’s close friends and family members – largely due to lifestyle choices and negative behaviors – spurred Marc into action. He wanted people to be aware of the consequences of their choices and, in 2007, founded Champion of Choices, Inc.
The Mission of Champion of Choices is to empower students to make healthy and positive choices that lead to lifelong success. By inspiring individuals to be the champions they are destined to be, students initiate personal and social change, making a positive difference in themselves and their communities.
Today, Marc selflessly gives of his time and talent to impact young lives with amazing results. As the self-proclaimed “Happiest Person on the Planet,” Marc shares his powerful story of tragedy and triumph, speaking candidly about where his good and bad choices took him. “It only takes using drugs one time to kill you – then your family and friends have to suffer and live with the pain of your choice everyday!” Marc is determined to keep students off of the “death list” he speaks of during his presentation – helping young people realize that life is precious and relationships should be cherished. The murder-suicide tragedy of WWE Wrestler Chris Benoit in 2007, further prompted Marc to take action and “do something positive to make this world a better place.” Rather than stand by waiting for someone else to make a difference, Marc Mero chose to be a difference-maker! Based in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and serving schools throughout the nation, Champion of Choices works to expose students to the harmful effects of their negative choices and highlights the value of positive choices by providing inspiration and wisdom for achieving success.
Since its founding in 2007, more than 450 Champion of Choices programs have been presented in schools and organizations in Orange, Seminole, Brevard, Osceola, Volusia, Hillsborough, Holmes, and Lake Counties in Florida and nationwide.
