General

  • Mission:
  • CAAB’s mission is to empower low and moderate income residents of the Greater DC area to take control of their finances, increase their savings and build wealth for a better future.

  • Overview:
  • CAAB believes in providing people with the tools necessary to live beyond paycheck to paycheck and to save for their future, creating stronger and healthier families and communities. In 1997, CAAB was one of thirteen community-based organizations in the country selected to participate in the American Dream Demonstration, the first large-scale study of Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) as an anti-poverty tool. IDAs are a unique economic development tool that combines financial education and training with matched savings accounts to encourage low-income individuals to save and invest in themselves. While the Matched Savings program remains a core part of CAAB's work, beginning in 2005, CAAB expanded its programming to connect low- and moderate-income consumers with financial/credit coaching, financial education and planning services, free tax preparation and tax credit information and other resources to help them increase their financial security.
