  • Mission:
  • To encourage and empower youth and their families to grow mentally, emotionally, spiritually and to reach their highest potential through training, counseling and treatment.

    Byline: Hope & Healing

  • Overview:
  • Chehalem Youth & Family Services is a well-known non-profit organization in Yamhill County, Oregon that provides programs that aid youth and families of Oregon. Though CYFS has several programs, CYFS highlights herein its service to 108 youth in the Youth Opportunity Occupations Program (Yoop!), assisting teens to overcome barriers to completing their education and succeeding in their future employment.

The true purpose of CYFS is to facilitate hope and healing where there is none. We operate by these important principles. Our mission is to encourage and empower youth and families to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and to reach their highest potential through training, counseling and treatment.

A child's value is realized in our community through the delivery of compassionate care. When we provide cost-effective services to children, we contribute back into our local economy and reduce the burden for taxpayers everywhere.

  • History:
  • For 47 years, Chehalem Youth and Family Services has generated hope and healing for youth and families in Oregon by identifying needs and finding solutions. CYFS was founded in 1970 as Chehalem House, a home for delinquent teens. Today, CYFS is a human services organization providing an array of services.

CYFS has provided over four million hours of service and positively impacts the trajectory of 1,000 each year. CYFS operates out of five facilities in both the east and west end of Yamhill County.

Over 40 years ago CYFS founded a school specifically designed to address the needs of children with severe emotional and behavioral challenges staffed by credentialed teachers assisted by a team of mental health professionals to help each child attain their highest potential. Over the years the school grew and evolved and has now been replaced by the Youth Opportunity Occupations Program. Yoop! provides educational and vocational opportunities to 120 young adults who are at risk in Yamhill County. Yoop! services include tutoring, GED and credit completion, computer training, parenting classes, help applying to colleges, free student aid assistance, and help finding scholarships. In addition, Yoop! provides employment resources such as job training, help discovering and determining career options, resume writing classes, interview preparation and job application workshops as well as internships and employment opportunities. These are only a few of CYFS' accomplishments.
