  • Mission:
  • Alpine Village Vision Statement
The College Avenue Baptist Church Alpine Christmas Village serves as a community outreach program, and is a gift from all our volunteers to Caldwell and surrounding counties. As this area continues to suffer from economic recession, it is more important than ever that we reach out to families and try to improve their lives in any way possible.

Currently, we have three major goals for this Program.
    1. To provide a Christmas experience of excitement and joy, and gifts for children and families who would otherwise have no Christmas.
    2. To provide senior adults an opportunity to step into the past and enjoy Christmas through the eyes of happy and excited children.
    3. To provide a unique and unduplicated experience for our entire community, one which will never be forgotten and which has already become a family tradition for many of our guests.

All who attend are admitted without charge, and every child receives gifts in each and every shop.

  • Overview:
  • Program Description

The Alpine Village is a step into the past, filled with the wonder of thousands of lights and the magic of a fantasy Christmas town. Created four years ago, with a goal to serve 500 guests, we have grown steadily each year, reaching our maximum capacity of 3000 guest, with more than 1500 children.
Admission is free to all. Guest registration has been completely filled during the last two years, with many others eager to attend.

The Village itself opens into a town square with merchants and shops, a Village clock tower, an open snow area for photos, a place to write letters to Santa and a separate room for puppets, popcorn and Alpine Horns. Each of the ten shops features a different concept, and a free gift for each child. The Village Chapel, with its stained glass windows, is complete with a live nativity scene. In addition, the train station amazes children with three trains, including the Polar Express. And of course we provide an opportunity for a visit with Santa himself.

The Village is built mainly for children – to provide gifts and joy for the season, but adults love it as well. Many of our guests have indicated each year that the Village provides their family’s only Christmas.

    Volunteer Involvement

More than one hundred volunteers spend countless hours throughout the year organizing, planning, creating gifts, fund raising, setting up, decorating and preparing for this event. For the 2013 Village, work began in early January and is more than one-third completed. Each individual seen staffing the shops, portraying a Christmas character, presenting puppets shows, providing music, parking cars, working behind the scenes, creating wonderful gifts, give generously of their time, talents, and financial resources in order to make this program exciting and wonderful for all.

    Statement of Need

Each year as we seek to serve more than 1500 children, we need help financing the shop gifts. Ranging from cuddly Christmas teddy bears, train whistles, nativity ornaments, gingerbread cookies, to books, bibles and toys, each shop expenditure is approximately $1500. Please see attached a copy of the 2012 Village expenses. Due to the continued depressed economic climate in Caldwell County, there has been a sharp decline in church donations, while more families have come to rely on the generosity and continuation of this wonderful gift to the community.

    Community Need:

Our community and surrounding area has an extremely depressed economy. Many families in our area have been unemployed for more than four years. Without the Alpine Christmas Village, these families have no Christmas. The children of these families are our main target area, and we have planned two “School Days” especially designed for children in need. While many of our guests are financially challenged, we have open registration for all others in the community who wish to attend. It is a gift to the entire area, a family tradition, already, for many, and an experience which truly must be seen to appreciate. Those who have attended in the past continually ask us about the Village throughout the year and are dependent upon its continuance. The project is not based on gender, ethnicity, or religious affiliation. All who wish to attend are admitted, without question or charge.

  • History:
  • Measure of Project Success

We began the program four years ago in 2009 with 500 guests. This year, 2013, our fifth, we expect more than 3000 to attend with more than 1500 of those being children. We will also use the following criteria to measure success:

    1. Number of volunteers involved
    2. Number of guest served
    3. Comments from guest on-line surveys
    4. Number of individuals who contact our church, with contributions, questions, and those who wish to participate in and become a part of this program.

    Population served:

    40% Caucasian
    35 % African American
    24 % Spanish
    1% Other

We appreciate your consideration of this grant application. All donations will be recognized in our written information, and sponsorship for a shop will be displayed at the shop entrance. If you require further information or have any questions concerning this project, please contact me at 828-754-3355, or log onto to view a video from a previous village. We believe a visit to our Alpine Village provides an experience of all the sights and sounds of the holiday, and a deeper meaning of the Christmas spirit of giving which will never be forgotten.
