  • Mission:
  • People help people. This is the primary purpose of Aina soa. The NGO is focused on training and supporting people who educate and help people to help themselves.
The first focus is on the improvement of the basic health condition in the villages in Madagascar.
    AiNA soa means: Valuable life.

  • Overview:
  • Since the crisis in 2009 the situation in Madagascar has worsened. The World Bank has presented recently that the rate of poverty has risen to 92%. This has greatly affected the health situation. According to the Ministry of Public Health 241 health centres had to be closed. In most of the running centres there is a lack of medicine and medical staff. The last information was given to us from Dr. Harisoa Sahondra, head of the Directorate of Health Districts (DDS). 70 % of the Malagasy live in the rural areas. Many villages are only reached by foot and the next health centre is 10-20 km away. The lack of knowledge about health is immense and many die before they reach the poorly equipped health centre.
AiNA soa is working together with the Ministry of public health to find solutions to the increased health problems. AiNA soa’s focus lies on the basic health. This means we want to improve the knowledge in the villages about first aid, how to help a sick person and to prevent sickness. We started in the year 2013 to write a medical booklet in Malagasy on first aid, care at home and prevention. This teaching material gives us the foundation to start teaching in the year 2014. With this tool the health care workers will be trained to teach volunteers in the villages.
To use the resources wisely, to support and strengthen the existing channels, we partner up with other organizations . AiNA soa will teach in the courses of the Ministry of health and give seminars to NGO’s. The goal is to encourage cooperate approaches. The grants will be used for empowerment, training and teaching. The money will be used to pay the Malagasy staff, administration expenses, simple infrastructure and to print the medical teaching material. The program will be evaluated and refined after one year. AiNA soa is prepared to work long-term on the improvement of health. The grants are asked for one year as it will be clearer through the year in which ways we can influence the country. AiNA soa is in pioneering stage and hopes to be supported in that, even when things are not completely set yet.

  • History:
  • Relationship to Madagascar and its people existed since 1996 and was deepened over the years. In the different visits, the problematic health situation was observed and lead to the pilot project in the year 2006. This pilot project has been assessed three years later in 2009. The reports of the evaluation were so convincing that the fruits of the teaching were easily seen.
Consequently, a legal foundation for the planned activities was needed and an association in Switzerland was founded in the year 2011.
In the beginning of the year 2013, Nicole Imboden came to Madagascar to start the work. In this the teaching manual was written on first aid, care at home and prevention. It is done in two levels one to be taught and one to teach. The material will be finished at the end of the year.
