General

  • Mission:
  • Beaufort County Community College is a public comprehensive community college committed to providing accessible and affordable quality education, effective teaching, relevant training, and lifelong learning opportunities for the people served by the College.

  • Overview:
  • Beaufort County Community College will continue to be an innovative community leader, providing an open door to the future through educational opportunity, economic development, and public service. BCCC Instructional Affairs offers curriculum students educational opportunities for college credit, employment training, and appropriate academic support systems to ensure student success. BCCC’s Continuing Education (CE) division provides non-degree seeking students opportunities in occupational training, Basic Skills, community service, HRD, and Business and Industry services.

In May 2013, BCCC awarded 272 associate’s degrees, diplomas, and certificates, its largest graduating class since receiving its charter. The students attaining those educational goals are closer to obtaining better paying jobs and increasing their standard of living. In addition to assisting over 1500 students (65% of unduplicated annual enrollment) in acquiring federal and state financial aid during the 2012-2013 academic year, the College awarded 87 students institutional scholarships totaling just under $72,000 through the BCCC Foundation. During 2012, the BCCC Division of Continuing Education saw over 100 individuals complete their GED and nearly 200 individuals enhance their employability skills by completing Career Readiness Certificates through their employer or on their own through BCCC sponsored Human Resources Development classes.

BCCC campus hosts the Beaufort County Early College High School (BCECHS). The College graduated 32 BCECHS students in May 2013, over 90% of those remaining from the first class that entered the program. The BCECHS students received both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree or certificate.

  • History:
  • Beaufort County Community College began with the operation of a practical nursing program in 1949, under the direction of the State Vocational and Adult Education Department. From 1962 to 1968, the College operated as extension units of Pitt and Lenoir Community Colleges.

In December, 1967, the College was officially chartered as Beaufort County Technical Institute. The vocational and technical programs of the College were complemented by a college parallel program which opened in 1968 in conjunction with East Carolina University. In 1979, community college status was granted, and since then, Beaufort County Community College has functioned as a comprehensive community college offering continuing education and awarding associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
